Whistler Tough Mudder 2014Registration to compete in the upcoming Whistler Tough Mudder is just about sold out but there are still tickets available for spectators, so come on over and witness one of the most exciting endurance events anywhere!

In case you’ve never heard of a Tough Mudder, the concept was co-founded in 2010 by Will Dean and Guy Livingstone, modeled after Tough Guy races. A Tough Mudder is an endurance event featuring a 16 to 19 km, military-style obstacle course designed to play on common human fears, such as heights, fire, water, and electricity.

But you don’t have to go it alone.

The core principle of a Tough Mudder event, after endurance, is team work. Obstacles are designed to encourage teamwork and Tough Mudder contestants must commit to helping others complete the course.

The “Electroshock Therapy” event may make an
appearance at the Whistler Tough Mudder

You never know what you’ll find on one of these endurance courses, and Whistler Tough Mudder is bound to contain some surprises, but there are a few signature obstacles that you can almost count on seeing, such as the “Arctic Enema” involving a dumpster filled with ice water that you must immerse yourself in to dunk under the plank on top to pull yourself out on the other side; “Everest,” which consists of a quarter pipe slicked with mud and grease that you must run up, and “Electroshock Therapy” where you traverse a muddy field over which hangs a forest of live wires.

Tough Mudder events are not timed and, surprisingly, more than three quarters of contestants successfully complete the course.

Whistler Tough Mudder is to be held at Whistler Olympic Park, which features both open spaces and steep, rocky terrain: the perfect ingredients for putting together a unique and challenging course.

Just because the Whistler Tough Mudder is almost sold-out doesn’t mean you can’t try. If you feel like you’re man (or woman!) enough to take the challenge, go to the Tough Mudder website and see if they’re still accepting registrants. If not, sign up as a volunteer or a spectator – the earlier you do so, the cheaper it is!
